When I notice rays that appear for a few seconds on the wall, the colorful scarf which some girl crossing Newcastle Road is wearing, or velvety water of beloved Corrib river, I am happy. Then I run from things to things, sometimes with fears, or, like in February 2021 in Galway covered by soggy filter I wanted to wait under a blanket. Meanwhile, the 5K Perspectives project in which I participated motivated me to sharpen my eye and look at what was currently around me from a different perspective. During the second lockdown in Ireland, as part of the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture project, Wave Makers photographed various objects, situations, nature, and people, moving only within 5 kilometers due to Covid-19 restrictions. There were 30 people of diverse nationalities or professions, amateurs and professionals. Before we pressed the shutter button, we had a workshop on Zoom with an experienced photographer Avi Ratnayake, who dared us not to be afraid of taking the shot from non-identical positions. I was sitting on the bench, and leaned down and turned the lens for a selfie, then quite intuitively tried to capture my shoes and two purple snowdrops in the small phone screen. ʺWe all were waiting for spring. I imagined that she is a woman in sneakers who sat on a bench by the river’’. One morning, through the window, I noticed three infrequent rays reflecting on the opposite house. I caught them in a photo, quickly, because in one minute they disappeared. How everything we experience in our life is fleeting? The photos caught our longings, daily rituals and the reality of Covid-19 restrictions. After a few months in June 2021, the public could discover those different sensitivities at an exhibition at The Cornstore in downtown Galway. Sita Karki photographed the rusty tractor frame that she passed on her way home. She noticed that one side of the field is blocked by this fragment, and it reminded her, that we still have some old beliefs that are no longer serving us. She started to think how the shape and size of the frame can determine our veiw of the world. ʺBeliefs, perspectives, and nature are also heavily affected by what kind of frame we have created within ourselves. Maybe it is the time we need to ask ourselves whether our view of the world is also blocked by our rusty frame’’. The shots captured in this project still fly through my head. I stop and look even more at the people. I'm used to covering my face with a mask, but the beginning splash in my heart. „Czy nie wydaje się wam, że kiedy wciąż nosimy maseczki możemy wyraźniej zobaczyć oczy innych, a w nich blask zwykłego bycia, że jesteśmy tu razem?”
Kiedy dostrzegam promienie pojawiające się na kilka sekund na ścianie, kolorowy szalik dziewczyny przecinającej ulicę Newcastle, aksamitną wodę ukochanej rzeki Corrib, jestem szczęśliwa. Potem biegnę od sprawy do sprawy, drętwiejąc czasem z lęku, albo tak jak w lutym 2021 w Galway przykrytym rozmoczonym filtrem, chciałam przeczekać pod kocem. Tymczasem projekt 5K Perspective, w którym uczestniczyłam zmotywował mnie do wyostrzenia oka i spojrzenia na to co dookoła mnie z innej perspektywy. Podczas drugiego lockdownu w Irlandii, w ramach projektu Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury Galway 2020, wolontariusze - Wave Makers fotografowali rozmaite obiekty, sytuacje oraz ludzi, poruszając się jedynie w obrębie 5 kilometrów. Było nas trzydzieści osób różnych narodowości i profesji, amatorów i zawodowców. Zanim jednak nacisnęliśmy spust migawki, mieliśmy warsztaty z doświadczonym fotografem Avi Ratnayake, który ośmielił nas, byśmy się nie bali robić zdjęć z nietypowych pozycji. Siedziałam na ławce, pochyliłam się w dół i przekręciłam obiektyw na selfie, następnie, dość intuicyjnie próbowałam uchwycić moje buty i dwa fioletowe przebiśniegi na małym ekranie telefonu. Wszyscy wyczekiwaliśmy wtedy wiosny. Wyobraziłam sobie, że jest ona kobietą w trampkach, która przysiadła na ławce nad rzeką. Kolejnego ranka zobaczyłam przez okno trzy niezwykłe promienie odbijające się na ścianie domu naprzeciwko. Zdążyłam je uchwycić na fotografii, gdy po minucie zniknęły. Pomyślałam wtedy, jak wszystko, czego doświadczamy w życiu jest ulotne. Na zdjęciach zapisały się nasze tęsknoty, codzienne rytuały i rzeczywistość restrykcji Covid-19. Po kilku miesiącach, w czerwcu 2021, publiczność mogła eksplorować te różne wrażliwości na wystawie w The Cornstore w centrum Galway. Sita Karki sfotografowała zardzewiałą ramę traktora, którą mijała w drodze do domu. Dostrzegła, że jedna strona pola jest przez ten fragment zablokowana i skojarzyło jej się, że wciąż pielęgnujemy w sobie stare przekonania, chociaż już nam nie służą. Zaczęła zastanawiać się, jak kształt i rozmiar ramy determinuje nasz sposób patrzenia na świat. Nasze koncepcje, natura, opinie, są czasem silnie uzależnione od tego, jaki rodzaj ramy stworzyliśmy w sobie. Może nadszedł czas, by zadać sobie pytanie, czy nasz widok na świat również blokuje zardzewiała rama? Kadry uchwycone w tym projekcie wciąż przelatują przez moją głowę. Zatrzymuję się i jeszcze bardziej przyglądam się ludziom. Jestem przyzwyczajona do zakrywania twarzy maseczką, ale w moim sercu pluszcze początek. Czy nie wydaje wam się, że kiedy wciąż nosimy maseczki, to możemy dostrzec wyraźniej oczy innych, a w nich blask zwykłego bycia, że jesteśmy tutaj razem. |
